Spring is around the corner, and nettles tea is a great aid in helping the body adjust to a new season. Nettles is both nourishing and cleansing, and gives the body a good boost any time of the year.Nettles is a rich green color, and is loaded with vitamins and minerals. It is high in calcium, magnesium, iron, chromium, and other minerals as well as Vitamins C, D, A, and K, niacin, plus amino acids.

This simple herb is said to be tonic, anti-anemic, diuretic, laxative, anti-diabetic, anti-rheumatic, and anti-asthmatic. It can be used daily for an energy boost, to strengthen the kidneys and adrenals, to aid digestion, strengthen the respiratory system, help women’s ailments, nourish the hair and skin, and stop bleeding sooner (Healing Wise, Susun Weed).

The benefits of nettles can be gotten from the tea. You can buy tea bags, or buy some loose, put in a tea ball, and steep for a few minutes in a cup of boiled water. If you want to use it for a spring cleanse, there are a few ways you can do it.

You can take the tea a few times a day with a lighter diet, for a few days or a week. Eat mostly fruits and veggies and some whole grains. Avoid animal products, sugars, and high fat foods like nuts and seeds and oils.

You can also take the tea along with freshly made juices, or with a liquid diet. To do the liquid diet, cook the foods mentioned above and blend them with some water to make a soup. You can also add fresh juices and smoothies as part of the liquid diet.

If you happen to live in an area where nettles grows, you can steam or saute them for a nutrient-rich veggie dish. Be sure to wear gloves when you pick them. They don’t call them stinging nettles for nothing! Once they are submerged in water, the sting is removed.
