Benefits of Breathing and Meditation for Hypnotists

Almost every year, my husband and I go to the National Guild of Hypnotists Convention. Not only is it an opportunity to learn a lot and hone our skills, but we also get to present and share a bit of what we know.

This year I will have the opportunity to do three presentations. I’d like to share them with you, because these topics are of great benefit to a lot of people, not just hypnotists.

Presentation 1: Meditation for the Hypnotist and Client

Meditation is an ever-deepening practice for understanding our true nature. It can be used for physical and mental relaxation and well-being, stress management, and for accessing a still, serene place within ourselves. When used by a hypnotist, it adds richness and balance to life and allows the practitioner to be a more effective facilitator. Clients can use it to get clear and relaxed, make progress at a faster rate, and learn how to find answers within.

This class will cover: what meditation is and how it differs from hypnosis; a simple, systematic method of breathing and meditation; and time for sharing of experiences.

Presentation 2: Emotional Stress Release (ESR)

This technique (originating in applied Kinesiology) empowers a client to get a new perspective on an old problem. ESR aids the client in linking back brain memory blocks (the past) to the front brain creativity thinking area (the present). With ESR emotions from the past surface, yet the client can look at them safely as new, creative options surface. Information gleaned from this process can be incorporated into hypnosis work, or the person can use it on their own to resolve challenges.

In this class, participants will learn where ESR originated and how the process works; will be able to lead someone through the ESR technique; and be able to use the information gleaned for a hypnosis session.

Presentation 3: Secrets of the Breath

Methods of self-mastery through breathing have been known for millennia. They are now being rediscovered by modern science. Books like Breath by James Nestor explain the ancient wisdom and modern innovative applications of breathing. Hypnotists can tap into this wealth of information for mastery over self and client. Simple techniques take us far in fathoming our own inner depths and gaining deeper insights and intuitions about clients.

This session will include theory and practice. Participants will learn what the six basic qualities of good breathing are; understand how diaphragmatic breathing is significant for the client and hypnotist; and have time to share their experiences from the practicum.

This year’s convention will run from 8/11-8/13, with pre and post convention classes also being offered. It is held in Marlborough, MA.
